Walk The Wire were a five-piece, keyboard-driven AOR band from the UK which was active during the mid 90’s.
Their self-titled album originally was released in 1994 and included 10 great AOR hymns in the tradition of fellow bands such as FM, Strangeways or Atlantic. The catchy tracks ‘Nothing To Lose’ and ‘Crossfire’ received numerous airplay at the time of the original release.
Through the years, ‘Walk The Wire’ became a hard to find collector’s item. Yesterrock now reissued this pure gem of British 90’s AOR with three bonus tracks and with an amazing re-mastered sound.
What you get here is an AOR jewel, the first 2 songs are THE definiton of what melodic rock/AOR can be, all the songs are awesome !
Walk The Wire is a pretty rich mix of hard edged guitar and keyboard layers, the latter coming to the fore with the album opener, an instrumental called 'Quadrature'. The bass lines pump along in great fashion, similar to Merv Goldsworthy's work in FM.
"Nothing To Lose", "On The Run" and "Storm Warning" continue the melodic attack with no let up, complete with memorable choruses.
"The knives Are Out Tonight" is an amazing ballad, "Stand Up And Fight" is pure hard rock with killer riffs that remind me of Led Zeppelin, the others songs are melodic and orgasmic songs with hard-edged guitars.
The vocals are simply amazing. I wonder what's happened with singer Paul Watkins. Where is this guy with his beautiful (AOR) voice?
Highly recomended release for all AOR fanatics among us...
