This record by british Glam Metal outfit Tigertailz is one of my highly adored all-time faves. Originally released in 1987 (re-released 2008 via independent label Krescendo), it pretty much represents everything a solid Cock Rock album should be.
All in all it´s a bit rougher and straighter than the follow up releases Bezerk (1990) and Banzai (1991), which may be a fact because it´s the only Tigertailz record with Steevi Jaimz on vocals.
Steevi Jaimz´ deeper and unique voice gave the songs a nice hard edge, which I missed later on. Seems to me a little bit like the Crashdiët situation these days, comparing former singer H.Olliver Twisted to current vocalist Simon Cruz.
So the album kicks off with the groovy midtempo rocker "Star Attraction". The intro riff creates a kind of WASP atmosphere which is not a bad thing to get started with... Nevertheless, this is not the strongest song on the record, but it leads to a first highlight called "Hollywood Killer".
Fantastic melody lines combined with a strong and straight beat that kicks some serious ass here...
Next one is a short and melancholic guitar intro named "Ballerina" before the Tailz give proof they are superb songwriters, with the ability to write a potential smash hit single.
Unfortunately the fantastic "Living Witout You" never really became a big commercial hit...but that´s just because the music biz in 1987 was just as unfair as it is nowadays... The song was re-recorded for the Bezerk album later with singer Kim Hooker, who did a great job on that one as well.
From this point on, the album really keeps running on an outstanding songwriting level. Songs like "Shameless", "Shoot To Kill" or "Turn Me On" could turn every Glam Metal party into a wild Rock n roll Orgy...and they did!!! I was there!!!!!!!!!!
"She´s Too Hot", written by late bass player Pepsi Tate (1965 - 2007) is another good time party rocker, that every 80s hard rock maniac should once drive a really fast car on a German Autobahn to...
The album closes with a fine and theatrical ballad named "Fall In Love Again". Not a song you would expect at the end of a really hard rockin´ Glam Metal record but that is one of the reasons, why this album is so special.
So...if you´re into great melodies, good musicianship, great Rock N Roll lyrics and raw 80s Party Metal feeling, check out Tigertailz´ first strike! You won´t be disappointed...
