Ok...lets see what we got here...Victims of Grunge Part 983.299??? Looks pretty much like it.
Though No Turning Back is not a huge all time classic record, it´s strange and sad to see another good band that never really made it because of some Seattle slowpokes that decided to ruin Rock N Roll for a while back in the 90s...
Released in 2010 on reissue label Eönian, this output contains a collection of High Noon songs that were recorded between 1989 and 1994.
The sound quality isn´t always that good but that doesn´t spoil the whole thing for me: Take a listen at LA Guns´ first record, that one sounded really really bad but I wouldn´t want to hear it in any other way because sometimes even a bad sound gives you a special feeling about a record you wouldn´t want to miss.
First song on No Turning Back is entiteld like the band itself. "High Noon" starts with a thunder and lightning intro and rocks out pretty good. Not a song I would kill for though...
Next one is " Bad Moon Risin´". Unfortunately the vocal melody lines this band comes up with are not always on a very high level, as you can hear in this uninspired chorus.
One of my favourite songs on this album is "Don´t Come Running" - the ballad! Reminds me a bit of early Tuff or Pretty Boy Floyd material and this time singer Jim Zappa creates a really nice reffrain situation.
Same thing with the next rocker "Have My Heart"! Probably the catchiest tune on the whole record. I guess I will play this song on my next party and I´m sure I will be asked which band it´s from.
Another really good one is song number 10 "Around Midnight", I think this must have been a great live track. Too bad that band doesn´t exist anymore and we won´t be able to check that out...
All in all, No Turning Back is not a milestone in rock history but if you´re into 80's Hard Rock, like you probably are as a reader of Slezenation.be, you may give High Noon a try.
I know I enjoyed listening to this album.
Jim Zappa - lead / backing vocals
