Frenchkiss - 2010 - Premier Baiser
1. Nice To Me
3. I Miss You
4. Steady Chicks
Frenchkiss is THE newest Glam Metal sensation from, as the name figures, France. Their premier mission is to re-invent the purest form of 80’s Glam attitude which classic bands like Mötley Crüe and Poison used to become huge stars within the Hollywood Metal scene. Well, one thing I can say. They’re doing a fine job!Last year I had the chance to see these lady-killers live at “The Sleaze Party of the Year 2010” in Rijen, the Netherlands. I can describe this sleazy bunch of glammers as outraging, outgoing, glamourous (can I say hot?) dolls who melt oldschool Heavy Metal with all the charming elements which can be found in typical chansons.
These Frenchies recorded a four-track demo entitled “Premier Baiser” (First Kiss). It’s a compilation of sugary, poppy songs, including great 80’s lyrics. Also the demo’s artwork fits right into Frenchkiss’ attitude towards the music industry; colorful and happy. That’s something I barely see in the new wave of Sleaze Metal; just plain fun! Thumbs up for this approach.
Frenchkiss starts off with “Nice To Me”, a very melodic, Poison-like song. When they play this song in front of your girlfriend(s) you better put them on a leash; because they hop right onto the backseat of Frenchkiss’ party-van.
“Sexpectations” has a more sleazy and sexy approach. It definitely rocks hard but it doesn’t lose its party vibe. In short: both songs are Heavy Metal-pop songs with an ultra sensitive side; just perfect to get the ladies going.
The third track is the beautiful power ballad “I Miss You”; a pretty good effort. It reminds me of some refreshed Bon Jovi songs, so if that was their goal with this song: nicely done!
The final track is called “Steady Chicks”, a great conclusion to an awesome demo.
As you have read I’m very positive about this band. It is fresh, it is fun and it is bloody good!
The visual aspect of Frenchkiss is astonishing, something which could lead to a new fashion statement. Frenchkiss proves that the 80’s are far from dead.
Seize the opportunity to see these guys live; you won’t be disappointed! Anyway, I’m looking forward to their first full-length album, which will be released this summer!
Be sure to catch a glimpse of these Glamnatics at ‘Metal & Make-up festival’, fourth of June, Kuurne Belgium (buy your tickets on sleazenation.be).
