A perfect piece of evidence that it's not just the home country of Sweden that gives their bands a forum to bring out great music, the stuff recorded in the US proved to be top notch.
Constantly floating on mid-tempo rhythms, Lizzy spits his lyrics in a monotonous but appealing way, backed by great hooks and a full sound from the band behind and next to him.
The album contains both reworked demo material as new stuff, which probably explains the difference in songwriting greatness between the songs.
It does kind of leave you hanging on, expecting a whole lot and never really getting it all.
Every element is there, which leads to a great album but in my opinion, one last spark is missing.
Maybe the boys thrived on the Sweden-Hollywood combination, but didn't have the skills yet to take it to another level.
Don't get me wrong though, this was a first step taken in a completely new direction of music, and a great step it was.
Filled with party-sleaze songs and youthful energy, Lit Up/Let Down captures what was visible on stage and transferred it to your stereo.
All in all, it deserves at least a 7/10 for a first full length effort.
