Ilium - 2011 - Genetic memory
Grey Stains the Rainbow
The Immortality Gene
Ghosts In Flesh
Ilium is a melodic power metal band from Newcastle, Australia with strong roots in the classic heavy metal sound
as purveyed by the likes of Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath and Judas Priest.
The band has already released four albums and is currently poised to release their fifth album 'Genetic Memory' on Escape Music.
11 brand new songs, which are so infectious they will have you hooked from the start.
That powerful metal tone is still there with bags of melody to back it up.
This time Swedish mixer extraordinaire Martin Kronlund is twiddling the knobs, making this fifth outing more special than ever….
“Kinaesthesia” and “Littoria” are the two first songs which make a very good first impression and keep you curious on the continuing of the rest of the album.
The first song has a very nice guitar intro.
“The immortality gene” and “Ephemeral” are two songs that will chase in your head at once because of their characteristic introductions.
Both evolve beautifully.
Jason plays simply and yet his riffs sound fresh and innovative, listen to the addictive introduction of “Genetic memory”, easily one of the best songs of the album.
In the beginning I thought the band’s origin was from Germany and the reason is the song “Neanderthal within”, it's basic riff really sticks to the brain and its melodic
speed and solo brought in my mind the first days of Gamma Ray and such from the middle ‘90s.
It's rhythm is more than interesting and if you like it you can sing it along very easy !
Ilium is maturing fast into a formidable power metal band that will leave you drooling for more.
This new CD is their finest hour.
Mike DiMeo - vocals (ex Riot / ex Masterplan)
Jason Hodges - guitar
Adam Smith - guitar, bass, keys
