Neverify - 2010 – Species
I found it hard to really connect with this EP from Neverify, a British based band. Coming from a metal direction instrumental wise, the vocals didn't seem to link with the music. “Union” is a heavy and repetitive track, but then they all are. “Manumission” develops Neverify's sound a little more with a driven, hardcore sound interrupted by softer sections of vocals. The relentless, persistent metal sound continues into “Avatar” where more rhythmic and pounding guitar riffs reside. The final track, “Voyeur,” is a darker song with a blasting bass sound and softer verses that could take on the form of a ballad by Vain or The Glitterati without the distinct vocals. A vaguely competent album, but one I just couldn't get into and that I struggled to enjoy.
