2004...By the time the band’s self-produced debut hit the scene, the industry was already putting their ears to the ground, picking up on the rumble that is HYDROGYN.
In October 2006 “Bombshell” dropped officially in the US hitting the Billboard on three different charts to mark it amazing release.
“Strip’em Blind Live” was released in July 2007 again by their own label in the US and again on the bands label in Europe as well.
In January of 2008 the band re entered the studio to record Bombshell’s follow up in “Deadly Passions”.
Hydrogyn continued to tour throughout 2009 and releasing a DVD called “No Borders” which again struck the charts ..
In July of 2010 the band finished up “Judgement”. “Judgement” and was released in October of 2010.
Now 2012 "Private Sessions" shows Julie Westlake and Hydrogyn returning to their melodic roots in what the band is calling their strongest release to date.
Combining the brilliance of their freshman release “Bombshell” and the heaviness of the follow-up to that in “Deadly Passions” the band has put together a stunning release in “Private Sessions”.
So it’s modern heavy rock, with cutting edge riffs, intelligent lyrics and massive hooks and a stunning front lady!
The songs take time to develop, like "Forbidden Kind", "Scream" or "Heated Nights".
Then songs like "I Don't Know How" or "Alone" have these subtle moments that dull the hard rock edge.
"Une monde perdu" is a french song (yeah you read it correct) but a very impressive gothic ballad !! I never thought I would like a french song so much !?
Private Sessions is the better mix of edge and melody.
I didn't know if I would like this new album but the more I listen, the better Private Sessions sounds. So much for creating unnecessary expectations.
Easily recommended to fans of Evanescence !!
