How I have waited for this album. The group's debut was such a great platter that I couldn’t wait to find out what the guys had put together both sonically and package wise. I really tried to be open minded here and not let my love for “Ride Your Life” guide me when I started listening to “Trailerpark Show” but it wasn’t easy.
Where the first album delivered straight up 80´s metal, on “Trailerpark Show” the guys dabble in southern rock and roll. Bands like the Black Crows and Georgia Satellites come to mind and I was quite surprised just how well they pull this off cause this so different from their previous offering.
The Southern influences however grow on you and the songs are really well written and not just quickly put together. That being said though there is still a definite fun element present here and so my guess is that they jammed on this stuff for a while and then decided to record it to get it out of their system.
But as said earlier this is a great album with all the key ingredients: excellent songwriting, talented musicians and plenty of catchy tunes. The Southern Rock feeling flows through the whole album with the typical guitar sound and on a couple of the tracks a horn section.
And even if it’s quite different from “ Ride Your Life “, it´s still easy to hear the “ Toxic Heart “ sound.
The title track sets the tone for this album both in sound and quality and on “ Dr. Groove “ the horn section is set free which only adds to the fun. These two tracks along with “ Down In The South “, “ Bad Boy “ and “ Back Home “ are the finest on offer. Not that the remaining two are in any way bad. My only quibble is that the disc comes to an end way too soon.
Another release worthy of your time and attention and so I stand by what I said about the band when I first heard them: Toxic Heart is destined for greatness!
