Almost six years since releasing the acclaimed 'Crashed on PlanetHard', Italy based Planethard are back with their second full length CD "No Deal" but it was well worth the wait since the album has what it takes to leave a mark on those who care to listen.
PlanetHard has dramatically improved in all departments while taking the time to write killer songs with plenty of hooks and melodies.
The band actually sounds tighter than ever with a monster rhythm section, an updated guitar sound and special attention for the vocal arrangements.
The CD opens with the classic hard rock of "Ride Away". Check out the tune's highly melodic chorus and sizzling guitar solo.
Similar in style is the American influenced "Nothing For Free" with verses and guitars straight out of the 80s L.A. scene.
More heavy-riff based are the dark "Abuse", the modern "Wings In Vain" and "This World", the latter with a tremendous sharp guitar riff driving the song.
The ballad "To Tame Myself" is excellent and sees the band throwing keyboards and acoustic guitars in the mix.
"Empty Book Of Friends" is an Euro melodic rocker with a catchy hook and a song structure in the Scandinavian style.
A bit of a strange choice is the cover of Prince's pop classic "Sign Of The Times" which is almost unrecognizable in this Americanized hard rock version. Cool song nevertheless.
"Until Tomorrow Comes" veers back into Scandi melodic rock territory, especially the chorus but it's a bit harder edged, including an ear melting guitar solo while the melodic hard rock of "No Reason To Lie" reminds me of the second incarnation of Two Fires.
PlanetHard has released an very good rockin' album blending powerful hard hitting songs with melodic rockers. The songs are really well written and arranged, very well performed with flawless vocals. Add to that a vital and sparkling production and you have a most tasty package. "No Deal" rocks, and rocks good, my fellow melodic rock friends.
