Britisch David A. Saylor is no newcomer to the AOR scene.
He has rendered good service doing backing vocals for bands such as the Atlantic - the great album "Power" - and the Wraith, the album "Riot." Still, the public saw the demos of his great band Push UK being released in 2010 on the album "Strange World", these songs that were recorded in 1987.
Now he returns to the universe of sounds good with "City Of Angels", an album just huge for lovers of more traditional AOR. I ended up missing adjectives to praise the quality of this album ...
The parade of beautiful songs begins with "City Of Angels," a powerful ballad where a base is cut by keyboards & guitars.
The melody is very engaging and converges to an explosive chorus, impossible not to get carried away by it.
"Let Your Spirit Soar" is a mid-pacer and has a very engaging melody, again with keyboards serving as a base together with the bass always noting.
The guitars occasionally punctuate the melodic base that little change, even in the chorus.
"Hands To Heaven" is a beautiful ballad originally recorded by Breathe in 1988.....Saylor gave an update on one of the beautiful songs that I like most of the 80s.
The infectious "Give It All," a firecracker full of radio friendly keyboards. The music is exciting, mounted on a heavy bass line and still has a nice guitar solo. With a more pop approach undeniably, this song still fits well into the tracklist and is perfect to be heard at maximum volume on that sunny afternoon.
Another highlight of the album, without a shadow of doubt.
Then we have "In Our Dreams," a beautiful ballad where the keyboards dominate the scene almost completely, providing a delicate base, accompanied by bass and guitars precisely positioned along the melody.
"Mystery Girl" resumes the way with guitars in evidence since the beginning. I love the backing vocals in the verses
Another beautiful song that deserves multiple hearings is "Inside Love", originally recorded by rocker Seven UK. It has a pulsating bass line accompanied by guitars very well posted. Again, the melody was almost intact and it certainly was correct.
"Think Of What You're Thinking"is a great radio friendly rocker that has a powerful chorus and melody exciting. Always well distributed with guitars, this song comes as another highlight of the album.
Final we have "I Do not Want To Wait Anymore," a very nice ballad and "Where Do We Go From Here?", A beautiful mid-pacer featuring the beautiful vocals of Suzie Ashby, composing a chilling duet. The guitars steal the scene, accompanied by discrete keyboards that give the melody shine.
"City Of Angels" is a powerful collection of the best AOR of the '80s, all wrapped with the finest elements.
This is the kind of album that simply can't be missed in any collection citizens who consider themselves remotely a fan of AOR.
Great songs, catchy performances all well above the average makes "City Of Angels" one of the greatest albums of the year.
Material more than recommended.
