Since this band describes themselves as “ The new Sleaze sensation from Germany “ the hopes was rather high as the first track started to flow thru the speakers. The title track “ Hellywood “ is somewhat a little bit of Sleaze. It got that dirty and in your face attitude sound. The second song follows in the same style and it sounds really good.
Then out of the blue a cover of Falco´s “ Rock me Amadeus “. This is a rather clever cover. First of they made this simple melody into a mid tempo hard rock song. Then they sing it in English and it just grows. Not that it´s a great song, but still so much better than the original. I just don´t know if they wrote the English lyrics themselves, but I couldn´t find any English lyrics to this original song.
After this song the hole album changes style. And for once this is a good thing for me. It becomes one of the best Glam metal albums I´ve heard in many years. The sound has it´s rots in the 80´s Glam scene on the L. A. Strip. It has those rough edges left in both production and music.
Summer Days is just an amazing song that really brings me back to the 80´s. Then the tracks “Sad songs on the radio” , “Chain reaction” and “On the way” brings the Pretty Boy Floyd´s early demo recordings to mind in both style and sound. But mostly it has that feel all over them.
All the songs has that typical theme in the lyrics party, girls, sex and rock n roll. And of course there is the tranquil ballads “So hard” and “Goodbye” just as it was back then. The track “Pretty Boy” is so filled with the cocky attitude “ I´m all that and then some more”.
I have to say this, I sincerely hope that the band is aware of what they have accomplished here. That this is no Sleaze. This is kick ass Glam Metal !
