This new and up coming Swedish band from Sölvesborg, the hometown of Sweden Rock Festival, released their debut early this year. And they took me by surprise. I saw their first video “ Boots on, Rocks off “ on YouTube and thought, WOW I got to hear the rest of this album.
I always been a fan of Quierboys and Dogs D´Amour, and now here was a band that was a mixture of both bands with a modern touch.
After the first listening I instantly put the album on repeat and listen to it 5 or 6 times in a row.
And it just got better and better. The quality of the songs are extremely high for a debut.
The opener “ Down to the bone “ sort of sets the standard for the rest of the album. “ Whore of Babylon is a little bit different then the rest of the songs. I get a little bit of Louisiana in some way. It just shows that these guys take their inspiration from all over the place. And I think that it´s just that makes it so special, that they done lock themselves in just one direction.
It´s just hard to sit still when you listen to this debut. Without thinking about it you start to sway and hum along. They are truly great musicians and the only thing that worries me is the fact that they just might outdone themselves already. Not that it likely but it makes you want to hear what they can come up with in the future. If they continue to develop and takes that famous next step, well they can make it really big.
So let´s hope that they do just that.
To sum things up. This is my opinion a great album. Actually it might just be one of the best releases of 2013. It has it all, the songs, a great singer that just fits the music right and great production. My definition of a great work is met. When you listen you don´t want the song to end but still you just can´t wait to hear the next one.
All along the proses of listening to this album my favorite songs has changed. At the time, when writing this, the favorites are. Earlier mentioned “ Down to the bone “, “ Living in the cellar “, “ Whore of Babylon “ and “ Hoodoo Woodoo Allstar “.
So Hats off and Rock on to Dust Bowl Jokies !
