Degreed is a Swedish band from Stockholm, formed in 2005, and ”We Don´t Belong” is the follow up to their critically acclaimed 2010 debut ”Life,Love,Loss”.
The opening track ”Black Cat” starts up as a classic Power Metal song whit a heavy guitar, and then falls into a pleasant melody. It´s not something to get ecstatic about. It´s good and catchy, but not more.
The second track ”What If” opens in the same Power Metal style, but whit a keyboard instead. And this is even better this is a really good song.
But it´s not until ” In For The Ride” starts that you lift your eyebrows. This great AOR song is so influenced by bands like TOTO that it easily could had been recorded in that era.
After this song the two styles, Power and AOR, flows together in a great hybrid. This album grows on you and gets better every time. The sound is fresh and uplifting. I´m not gonna pin point any songs, as I think you should pick out your favorites yourself.
Actually I was confused after the first listening. I didn´t really know what to think. But after a couple more times it started to grow on me. This is one of the times that I´m rather thankful that I early decided that I would listen to an album at least ten times before I start to write a review. If I hadn´t done that I´m rather sure that I would had missed out on this great album.
The massive keyboard parties gives the songs a great rich and full sound. All of the work on this album is probably done to perfection in every stage of the making. The songwriting, the musicians performance, mixing and production.
This is a great album. It could be one of the best releases of the year in both genre that it mixes.
So my advice to you is to give this album a fair chance and you just might find yourself a new favorite album!
