The intro on ”2013” ” A new dawn” is a classic Power Metal intro with all the ingredients of the symphonic grandness of Power Metal, and it is a very high quality piece as well.
So the surprise when ”Raise Your Fist” starts of with a cowbell is totally overwhelming. And it just rolls on into a classic 80´s Hard Rock anthem with catchy chorus and melody. This is a true gem.
And the rest of the album continue in the same style with distinct influences from bands such as Accept and Judas Priest.
The lyrics and melodies are rather basic, but the production is top class witch gives the album a sound that is very full and rich. The only thing that made me a little confused was the last track. A cover of Men at Work´s “ Land Downunder “ that ain’t more then a straight down cover in a light Hard Rock style. My question was why? Clearly the band has so much more quality in their own songs then this cover.
Just before I started writing this review I made a little background check on the band.
The first thing I found out was that their country of origin is Australia, this could actually explain the choice of cover. And even made it sightly funny in a way.
Then I took a look at the boys birth years. And believe me they are boys! Three of them where born in ´97 and one, the singer, was born in ´96.
This would explain the basic lyrics and melodies to a point that actually makes this album a really good one!
Sure you can get spiteful and call them a “boy band”. But I would personally love if my kids would listen to this over any other given “boy band” out there. Any day of the week !!!
If these boys grow and mature in the same style as they started, I feel very confident about the future of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal.
