Founded in 2007 in their hometown Gothenburg, Baby Jane have now released their long-awaited debut album "In The Spotlight". In the five years between the formation of the band and the album release, the Swedes were anything but idle: With "Easy Game", "Taste Of Underground" and "Next In Line / This Is War", three EPs were released between the years 2007 and 2010, accompanied by common shows with Wrathchild, The 69 Eyes and Vains Of Jenna as well as appearances at the bigger festivals such as "Rest In Sleaze", "Trash Fest III" and "Skogsröjet" (2009 and 2011). Also in 2011, Freddie Wizzp (Vocals), Mikey (Guitar), Rikk (Guitar), Manx (Bass) and Matt (Drums) went to the "Studio Haga" in order to record "In The Spotlight" - and all in all it can be said that the first record was absolutely worth the wait...
Ten tracks: Nine of them are catchy rock songs, one is a ballad. The production is absolutely flawless, so it paid off for the Hard Rockers to leave their "BJ Studio" and to team up with a pro like Christian Svedin. The songs like "Raise Your Fist", the first and current single "My Behavior", "Face Against The Wall", the title track "In The Spotlight", "Adrenaline" and "Night Explodes" follow a similar pattern: They are all rock smashers with strong hooks. Raise your fists and your drinks into the air - and party! Considering that "party" is the guiding theme, one might be tempted to draw comparisons between Baby Jane and Hardcore Superstar, but except for the hometown and the genre, these two bands don't have that much in common. From the musical point of view, Baby Jane are audibly influenced by Mötley Crüe and Crashdïet: While "The Secret Lies" is quite reminiscent of Mötley Crüe's "Saints Of Los Angeles", "This Is War" reminds of Crashdïet's "Knokk 'Em Down". Nevertheless, "In The Spotlight" is worth a listen, especially its strongest track "Next In Line" and the very felicitous ballad "Upside Down".
Praised as one of the hottest newcomer bands from Sweden, Baby Jane live up to the expectations given the strong debut album and also the common knowledge that the guys are very ambitious and active. Especially fans of old hands such as Mötley Crüe might be more than pleased that spring chickens like Baby Jane are contributing their part to the Hard Rock scene since someone has to maintain the supply once Vince Neil & Co. have retired...
