I must confess that I never have listen that much to Helix after
their “Wild in the streets” in the 80´s until I saw them live at
Sweden Rock Festival in 05. After that show I had to change my
opinion of the band. These Canadian rockers has provided us with
many great songs over the years.
Unfortunately I feel they never got the credit they deserve. They
have always delivered high quality rock n roll music with the roots
in Blues rock.
After their 09 release of “Vagabond Bones”, that I loved, the
expectations were rather high for this new release.
“Bastard of the Blues” is no exception to Helix earlier releases.
It´s straight thou all quality songs. All very well written and
preformed by very gifted musicians. Singer Brian Vollmer is one
of those who has a voice that have aged gracefully. He still got a
great rock voice and sounds very close to how he sounded in the80´s.
The sound on the album is very much what we are used to hear
from Helix, maybe this one has a little more Blues in it. But not
that much as it alters the Helix sound.
There are a few songs that stands out on the album. That is “Even
Jesus (wasn´t loved in his hometown)”, “Winning is the best
revenge” and “Metal at midnight”
Still it´s over all a really great album and
definitely worth checking out !
