This band with singer/songwriter Spice (Spiritual Beggars, Kayser)
is very much back to basics. As the singer himself has said he was
listening to a lot of classic hard rock from the late70´s and early
80´s when writing these songs and you can really tell that he did.
The sound is very straight up hard rock, simple and catchy. And
that makes the album very energetic and pure, with great guitar
parts thou out the whole album.
This kind of music brings a couple of 80´s bands to mind, such as
Dogs D´Amour, Rock City Angles and Quierboys but also a light
version of Hellacopters. Spice has a voice that sounds a little bit
like Zodiac Mindwarp.
The album has a great mixture of mid-tempo and up-tempo songs,
with a majority of them being up-tempo. Over all it got a very nice
blend of influences that brings a great groove to the album. And it
grows on you for every time you listen to it.
Just to point out the many influences that you can find in the music
on “Economic Dancer” I will pin point some of the songs that
really stuck on me and why.
Starting of with the second track “True Will”. This song starts with
an intro that includes a cowbell, and since I am one of those who
love cowbells I think this is just awesome.
“You Can´t Stop” has one of those really great 70´s Hammond
organ that has that very unique sound. You know what I´m talking
about, just think Jon Lord.
“Down At The Liquor Store” has a got a really great funky grove
to it that makes you sway along.
Over all this it a really great album that is definitively worth
checking out !
