Pleasure Addiction is a French band that has sprung out of the
Paris Glam Metal underground scene. Whit the goal to re-define
the Glam Metal music from the late 80´s and early 90´s, the band
was a sort of All Star band from the Paris underground scene.
Extra Balls is the bands second full length release and I have to say
that I am really impressed whit it. As a Glam Metal album this is
one of the best I have heard in many years. So much better then,
for example, any of Steel Panther´s albums. And I say that whit
great respect for said band, as this review is not about my opinion
about Steel Panther.
Pleasure Addiction has composed a real gem of solid Glam Metal
music with no fillers among the 11 tracks what so ever!
The sound is just like it has been taken straight out of the Golden
age of Glam Metal. The band has captured the essential in that
music, the party mood, the lyrics about sex and Rock n Roll and
even the occasional Power Ballad is not just a pale copy of the
great ballads of the 80´s but has just the same quality as its
So what is it about this album that has captured me so much?
Well I guess I have to say that it is the wholeness of the package,
that it has no weak links or flaws. Everything has a point and
meaning whit out being pretentious. And even the titles of the
tracks has that special simplicity that define the genre. For
example, “Hey Boy”, “I Love L.A.” and “Fuel for Soul”. It is
short and simple, as it should be. A song don´t get better just by
having a novel as a title. That just takes the fun out of it.
And while talking about fun, I truly believe that the band had just
that when the made this record. I can almost feel the joy and the
love for the music when I listen to it. I have always been a sucker
for the simple songs that have a catchy melody and has an easy
sing along chorus. The best example of that type of song on this
album is probably “I Love L.A.”. But as I said before this album
is full of gems, a true treasure box. Just top nudge quality song
that I really feel will stand the test of time.
So if you like me love the Glam Metal of the 80´s and early 90´s
I strongly recommend you to check this album out and keep an
eye out for Pleasure Addiction in the future.
