Finally Houston brought out their full album, after releasing the well-received single “Hold On” earlier this year, which built up quite the hype for the Swedish duo of Hampus “Hank” Erix (vocals) and Freddie Allen (Drums).
Houston is another example of a talented set of musicians, whose passion for the music comes together alongside an inventive producer (Ricky B Delin), who brings a great crew together with the likes of Tommy Denander, Tomas Vikström (Talk of the town, Candlemass etc), Mats Olausson (Yngwie malmsteen etc) to add more power to an already catchy sound.
The single “Hold On” is a nice song, as mentioned before, but's tracks like “I’m Alive” that make the record flow with energy and provides the listener with the classic chords of vintage AOR.
The keys in “Give Me Back My Heart” are soulfully played with the heartfelt drums marching on in this arena-style rocker.
Houston definitely stick to their trade, as Denander provides a futuristic keyboard presence on some of the songs, which fit perfectly with the AOR vibe throughout the record.
It took much hard work for the guys to complete the record and it shows in the production and the performance.
I think as time passes on we will go back and refer to this release as a top notch (perhaps classic?) record.
You never know, all I know is that the musicianship is close to perfection, with all the catchy hooks and enticing melodies we come to expect from veterans in the genre.
One of the strongest releases of the year and to think we still have so much material to come out, really people could you ask for more if you’re a Melodic Rock fan? I didn’t think so.
